Since the first settlers came in 1863, Harper has been a small, close-knit community tucked into the rolling Hill Country in central Texas.

At just over 2,100 feet it sits on the western edge of Gillespie County at the headwaters of the Pedernales River with Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Mason, and Junction all about a 30 minute drive away. Numerous ranchers make their living here and deer hunting enthusiasts from across the country flock to the area in the winter.

For some, it has become a bedroom community for people who commute daily to San Antonio, to border towns on the Rio Grande, and even to Austin. The reputation and quality of our school makes commuting a small price to pay, knowing their children are in a safe, secure environment, and learning with students that are college bound at a higher ratio than will be found in most larger schools.

Community events are sprinkled throughout the year and always see a big turnout. From children’s activities to rodeos, barbecue fundraisers to dances, locals from Harper and other nearby communities come and spend time together.
